Get to know: Make Me Famous

Ukrainian post-hardcore act Make Me Famous recently set aside time in order to answer some questions that we had about the band,what they have coming up in the near future, and their signing with Sumerian Records. Make sure to get to know the band, below.

SSP: Could you give us a bit of background on yourselves?

MMF: It was a new year show in 2008 where Denis and Sergei met. Sharing the same thoughts and music tastes we decided to create our own stuff, which wasn’t hard cause Denis had many cool ideas in work. Once we realized that we needed a full line-up, we picked Jimmy who used to play in Denis’ former band and we knew him as an awesome person and guitar player. Serj was hepling with recording the album and on a certain moment we offered him to join the band. And then life connected us with our drummer Dusty. Life’s weird and wonderful at the same time.

SSP: How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard you?

MMF: Well, it’s powerful and sketchy, it makes you dance, makes you smash things around and then hug someone saying that you love him. It’s much more than just riffs and words and we hope that every listener feels what we were trying to put in it.

SSP How has YouTube had an effect on your career?

MMF: Actually, it made our career. Some people say that we came out of nowhere, but Denis was putting a lot of hard work into his channel during many years. Of course it affected the band cause all the subscribers were stoked about what that “above92″ guy will create on his own. So yeah, YouTube is probably the main source for us to spread news and updates.

SSP: You were recently signed to Sumerian Records. How does it feel to be signed to a label that launched bands like Asking Alexandria and I See Stars and what effect will this have on your careers as musicians?

MMF: Of course it’s a big honor for us to become a part of Sumerian family and share a label with many awesome bands. Being noticed and signed by such a big label should be an inspiration for every musician, so it does for us. Probably we don’t even completely realize what happened cause there are lots of crazy things going on recently. We just feel like one step closer to our dream.

SSP: Your debut single dropped today. What went into making that and how does it reflect you as a band?

MMF: We’ve put a lot of time and work in this one trying to make it perfect. It also contains thoughts that we liked to discuss on warm summer nights after hard days of recording. So it’s kinda special for us, it’s something that should make you think about the world around us.

SSP: What message are you trying to send with your music?

MMF: There’s a certain message for everyone in every single track. Someone’s romantic, others like to party or spending time alone. In general, it’s about how we rush the life and never notice important things that pass by. Planning your future is good, but these are the most precious days, so try to enjoy them cause they will never come back.

SSP: Where do you draw influence from, particularly for your new material?

MMF: Good music and awesome people. Being in a perfect mood is very important for songwriting. Sometimes it’s useful just to dick around all together making jokes and stuff. And of course listening to many kinds of music helps a lot, even if it’s not the music you play.

SSP: What does the future hold for Make Me Famous?

MMF: We’re about to release our debut album pretty soon and next we’ll start touring full time. Make sure to get your own copy of our CD and of course we’ll meet you all on tour. Stay stoked and don’t forget to check our updates. We’re so excited about it!
